By creating new folders, for example for your course modules, you can create a filing system for your computer. This video takes you through this first step to organising your filing system.
Saving documents correctly is the other side of keeping your files organised. This video shows you how to save documents correctly so you will always be able to find them again.
If you need to take work with you, for example to Work or Uni, use your portable USB drive (also known as a ‘flash drive’). This video shows you how to copy work from your computer onto a USB drive.
Sometimes you need to burn data onto a CD. For example you may need to submit work electronically on a CD, or you might want to give someone a copy of a document or photos etc. For this you wouldn’t use your USB Memory Key as you may not get it back! So instead, use a CD.
If you are working on a very important document, one way to back it up is to attach it to an email and send it to your own email address (the same one you are using to send the email). Provided you can get online, you will also be able to access the document from anywhere.
When working on multiple documents, for example you could be reading some feedback in an email and typing changes into a Word document, you can easily view two windows by using a clever Windows 7 feature. Checkout the video to see how it’s done.
When you have lots of different documents open, you can quickly flick between them using Windows 7. This video will show you how to do it.
